In the twentieth edition, the Foundation AENA has just awarded the Luis Azcárraga 2015 award to the research project which constitutes a distinctive contribution in air transport in 2014.

Specifically, the awarded doctoral thesis has been presented by Dr. Oriol Lordan, supervised by Jose M. Sallan and Pep Simo. The doctoral thesis proposes a methodology to assess the robustness of the network of air routes,  differentiating between incidents affecting airports with large network centrality airport or chosen randomly. These two types of incidents are called attacks and errors in the methodology of complex networks.

The robustness is done in three levels of analysis: the global network of air tranport, the  networks of the three currently operating alliances and networks of airlines.

Currently Dr. Oriol Lordan is professor of the Department of Management at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (BarcelonaTech) and teaches Air Transport, Quantitative Methods in Management and coordinates the implementation of the “Lab. of UAVs” in the School of Industrial and Aeronautical Engineering of Terrassa  (ETSEIAT).
