This week I have invited to Dr Robert Gyorodi as a guest lecturer at the School of Industrial, Aeronautical and Audiovisual Engineering of Terrassa (ESEIAAT) of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya · BarcelonaTech (Terrassa, Spain). Dr Gyorodi has taught a seminar about Explorative Data Analysis with Python, whose total duration was 6 hours, and oriented to students from the Master’s Degree in Technology and Engineering Management. Although many students were interested, only a small group of students have been able to attend, so the interaction and feedback between the participants and Dr Gyorodi have been quite intense. It’s not the first time that Dr Gyorody visits the school, and we hope he comes back in the future again.

This time, Dr Gyorodi has introduced several topics about how to use Python to analyse data. The outline of the seminar has been the following:

  • Preparing the environment
  • Installing Python and the required libraries
  • Using online services
  • Data Science examples using Python
  • Fetch the data
  • Clean and manipulate the data
  • Inspect the data
  • Present results as Values, Spreadsheets and Graphs
  • Examples using Machine Learning with Python
  • Building a two-class data mining classifier
  • Predicting a game-winner in a championship
  • Building a Simple Recommender System
Building a simple image processing and recognition system

Next time we’ll ask you to organise a seminar on business analytics with python or a more machine learning oriented session.
